Communication
The Communication Committee ensures that news, events, and activities of interest to Beaumont-Wilshire residents are shared clearly and professionally. The group meets regularly to coordinate BWNA's communication tools — the website, the bimonthly print newsletter, and the monthly emailed Community Update — keeping them accurate, aligned, and reflective of BWNA's branding standards. Members include the newsletter editor, Community Update editor, graphic designer, and the BWNA board president.

Crime Prevention & Safety
This committee helps keep neighbors informed about local crime and safety concerns. Members monitor reports of criminal activity and other issues affecting the neighborhood, sharing updates with the BWNA board. The committee maintains a positive working relationship with our Portland Police Bureau liaison to support timely information-sharing and advocacy when needed.

Events
The Events Committee is where neighbors come together to make community fun happen! Meeting monthly, the group brainstorms ideas, then plans and carries out events as BWNA resources allow. This energetic team organizes the annual Skidmore Block Party, the Art & Garden Tour, Movie in the Park, the neighborhood-wide yard sale, and speaker forums.

Friends of Wilshire Park
Friends of Wilshire Park (FoWP), operating as a BWNA committee, is a volunteer-driven group dedicated to preserving and enhancing Wilshire Park. Working in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation, members help keep the park vibrant, welcoming, and well cared for. Their efforts include hosting community events, planting native species, fundraising for improvements such as updated playground equipment, and engaging neighbors in long-term stewardship of this beloved green space.

Land Use
The Land Use Committee monitors development activity that may affect Beaumont-Wilshire. Members track construction notices, zoning changes, and change-of-use permits within the neighborhood boundary and may attend public meetings on issues relevant to residents. The goal of the committee is to keep the BWNA board informed and prepared to respond to land-use matters that shape our community.

Newsletter Team
The BWNA newsletter is an all-volunteer effort that has been printed and hand-delivered since at least 1988. While its format has evolved over the years, its mission remains the same: to provide the most comprehensive source of BWNA board activity and neighborhood news to those who live and work in Beaumont-Wilshire.
The team meets bimonthly and blends camaraderie with the work at hand. Members include the editor, reporters and writers, copy editors, and a graphic designer who prepares the layout and ensures all design elements follow BWNA branding standards. Advertising sales and service are currently managed by the editor.

Plaza
Working with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and Beaumont Business Association in 2026, this committee successfully secured the temporary closure of a portion of NE 44th Avenue at Fremont Street to establish Beaumont Crossing, a neighborhood gathering place.
A 3-month trial period for the street plaza extends through late September 2026, after which its success will be evaluated by PBOT. A positive evaluation could lead to a permanent plaza beginning the summer of 2027.

Transportation
This committee works to identify and advocate for the transportation-related concerns of our neighborhood. Pedestrian, cyclist, and driver safety are their priority. The committee brings its concerns to the attention of the Portland Bureau of Transportation to seek solutions.
